PANEL DISCUSSION
Each metaverse platform (Meta, Microsoft, VRChat, Roblox) has a different approach and different types of avatars. There are more and more metaverse avatar apps duplicating our physical presence, while others are proposing to create new identities.
Should an avatar reflect our identity in the physical world, or is it a great opportunity to change our identity and create a more artistic vision of ourselves? What are the different types and available features of avatars in the metaverse? Could there be some psychological impact based on the avatar we choose? Which are the technologies currently available on the market? What about the “uncanny valley”effect*?
During the conference, our speakers will answer these questions and surely, raise many more.
* The uncanny valley is a concept first introduced in the 1970s by Masahiro Mori, then a professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. Mori coined the term “uncanny valley” to describe his observation that as robots appear more humanlike, they become more appealing—but only up to a certain point. Upon reaching the uncanny valley, our affinity descends into a feeling of strangeness, a sense of unease, and a tendency to be scared or freaked out.
